Air (2015)

There’s a new sci-fi trapped-in-a-bunker movie that’s in limited theatrical release and On Demand streaming called Air. I gave it a shot since it’s “from the producers of The Walking Dead” and stars Norman Reedus (Daryl from Walking Dead) and Djimon Hounsou (not from the Walking Dead). But the genre pedigree was interesting so I gave it a shot.

Basic premise is that the world is collapsing from biological warfare so the government sets up mass suspended animation chambers for the best and brightest to sleep their way until a time when the world is habitable again. Reedus and Hounsou play the maintenance guys who wake up every few years to make sure the bunker is running right.

And, oh my god, nothing happens at the sloggiest, most sluggish pace that anything has ever not happened at ever. This movie is SO boring and dull and plodding. It comes from a subgenre of Twilight Zone inspired sci-fi or horror about people trapped in a bunker and can they work together or will they crack? It’s a fine genre but you have to have enough drama and good dialog to cover the fact you have locked your tiny cast in a box and told them to act. And this movie fails really bad at the challenge. Skip it… assuming there was any chance you might have even heard of it.
