Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

So I was about 30 years too old to go see the new film (based on the book which I surprisingly never read as a kid) Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day but I still had a good time in this inoffensive, wholesome, and sweet little movie. The only real problem I had was that the trailer gave away the majority of the story beats and jokes. But I still had fun and chuckled. The fun thing is there’s a certain amount of subversion in the film while still being nicely not cynical or too steeped in pop culture. By which I mean, a movie that’s perfectly good for the kids had an impressive number of uses of the word penis in a way that didn’t feel forced or sordid. And a team of male strippers without being skeevy.
