Saw the latest spooky doll horror movie Annabelle – the supposed/technical prequel to The Conjuring (where the same doll appears in the first five minutes or so). The weird thing is, this is a haunted doll movie that forgets the haunted doll… seriously… the doll never does anything besides look obviously evil. Instead, this is a generic demon/ghost haunting movie – the kind where the spooks f**k with the main characters via turning on the sewing machine, turning on the record player, turning on the stove. Are you scared yet? This might have been a slightly better movie if the main characters weren’t the most bland, boring, milquetoast actors AND characters imaginable. So boring. So generic. Maybe generic actors could have handled better material. Is it a complete disaster? Well, there are some legit surprising and quick shock moments that really did give me chills (though one is ruined by the trailers). If the ending wasn’t just a lot of BS, that might have helped too. Still, I’ve seen a lot worse and a lot more generic horror movies… this is in no way a recommendation but if you wind up seeing it, you could see worse.
