Babysitter, The (2017)

Checked out the creatively titled Netflix original The Babysitter last night. To my surprise after watching it, I saw that it was directed by McG… oh how the marginal have fallen? Maybe… this isn’t his best film but it’s hardly his worst. What it is is a horror/comedy on a budget and it works a decent amount of time but does run a little long (for an 85 minute movie).

The movie stars a 12 year old boy who is a little too old for his little too hot babysitter. They get along great – she nerds it up with him, they bond, he thinks she’s hot and is totally into him… but there’s a six year age gap. Plus she’s a satanist who brings in her senior high school friends when he’s supposed to be asleep. Seems they need a little “blood of the innocent”…

The film has a light touch even while being very (comedically) bloody and I did laugh out loud a few times. Generally speaking it’s a good-natured-if-twisted little flick. I can give it a fair recommendation for folks looking for some laughs in their Halloween flicks. And it’s on Netflix so that helps.
