Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader

Checked out the animated movie Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader which is based on the 60s Batman show and uses the voice talents of Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar as one three on-screen catwomen (Batman gets blurry vision and is shocked to see THREE catwomen… a joke about the three ladies who played the character in that show). That’s not the only self-referential joke – this entire movie is kind of a satire of a show that was already a satire of a show. It’s a little weird. But there are some good jokes and self-refential humor (Robin at one point says something like, “Holy , if we don’t help, we could lose Batman Forever!”)

This is available paid streaming (not Netflix yet) and isn’t a bad time but the more you remember the old show, the more you’ll probably enjoy it. I don’t have strong memories but I got most of the jokes, I think. But it’s not ultimately a very exciting or interesting movie – just a stream of yuks in between plot points and fist fights (BAM! KERPOW! CHUNK!). It runs about 80 minutes and that’s even too long. But, still, I chuckled so I guess that was the point.
