Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul

Also checked out the kid’s flick Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul. This is the fourth film in the series and it is kind of a reboot in that they recast everyone… which makes sense for the kid actors since they probably all slammed hard into puberty so they had to so something.

I have a low level amused weakness for this low level but semi-charming series of flicks. This one is about on the same level as the rest – not really better or worse. Which doesn’t make it a great movie or even one anyone should seek out (unless you’re 8 years old). But if you, as a grown-ass adult, runs across it some time on a lazy Sunday, it’s worth keeping on the background. Sure. Why not?

This one has the family on a road-trip to visit grandma and all the usual film-like-family-road-trip disasters you’d expect occur. This is just a predictable, sometimes semi-amusing incident upon incident – no real plot, just a family driving each other crazy as they have one thing happen to them after the other.

I really can’t say much more. It’s amusing at times and a decent distraction. Kids will get more out of it than adults who have seen all this before, only better. But it ain’t bad. Not really.
