Django Unchained

So Django Unchained may be my favorite movie of the year… kind of gobsmacked about that but there ya go. It’s a violent (red mist! Jeesh) western/action flick with an awesome soundtrack… it’s the revenge fantasy that Inglorious Basterds wished it were… great acting (though Leonard DiCaprio does overdo it in one scene)… and Samuel L. Jackson plays one of the best villains of the year… you kind of want to see every bad thing happen to him. Christoph Waltz is again awesome – this time as the good guy. Jamie Fox is also very good and can rightly be described as an epic hero (though one wonders how a slave can be so awesome at everything he does in such a short amount of time… I guess he’s a bit of a Mary Sue). Copious use of “The N Word”… though since it makes the C\Klan (if not in name, then in action) into a bunch of whiney little babies who can’t see through their eye-holes, I think that about makes up for it. Fair warning – if me saying it has a lot of N word in it and is very violent isn’t clear – this can be a very a hard movie to watch for the feint-of-heart. It’s a Quentin Tarrentino movie turned up to 11 (100% fewer gimp masks though).
