Endless Love (2014)

So I took my imaginary Canadian girlfriend to see Endless Love, the new romance flick released just in time for Valentine’s Day. It’s a remake of an 80s flick I didn’t see. It stars the least convincing 18 year old (Alex Petyfer) who is love with a very convincing 17 year old… this was distracting. It’s a romance between two personality-free characters who never say or do anything interesting… except for the girl willing to subsume her intellectual identity for Mr. Bland. She’s rich, he’s poor, her dad is a prick. The first 30-40 minutes are cute and fairly charming, I guess, and then it just gets really corny and campy with dialog that doesn’t make sense in context of the plot and isn’t consistent within the same scene… all done just to give the plot some manufactured drama. I think if I wasn’t a cynical dude who’s seen this story before or 14 years old, this would be amazing and I’d be rooting for these two crazy kids when the world is against them, etc.
