Everything, Everything

Went to see the new teen romance flick Everything, Everything. It’s not a bad time at the movies… it could have picked up the pace in the middle as I thought it got a bit draggy at times.

Premise is that a new boy movies in next door to a girl with an immune deficiency disease. She can’t leave the house or come face-to-face with strangers since pretty much any virus or semi-infectious bacteria could kill her (she has boy-in-the-bubble disease, basically). But that can’t stop budding romance as they text each other and he’s eventually let into the house by her kind nurse. Mom isn’t so pleased. Star-crossed, romantic drama intensifies.

The movie is sweet, charming, awkward, and lovely at varying degrees. Like I said above though, it really needed some oomph in the middle as it starts to drag down, especially with the “should they/shouldn’t they” hand-wringing kicks into gear. Of course they will, let’s skip to that part and stop kidding ourselves.

But, still, it’s a good enough time at the movies despite what I saw as pacing problems. It’s perfectly possible the moon-eyed and more romantic folks in the audience wouldn’t have a single problem with any moment in this otherwise engaging and earnest film.
