Family, The

Saw the Robert DeNiro / Michelle Pfeiffer comedy action flick The Family… about a family of mobsters hiding out in Witness Protection in France… and how they can’t help but be mobsters in their daily lives.

It’s a remarkably unfunny movie with one joke (haha… DeNiro just took a baseball bat to the plumber because the plumber was probably going to charge him too much)… not that this couldn’t be funny and not that it was never funny about it, but there wasn’t much else going on for an hour… and then it turned into a remarkably tense and exciting action film when the mob catches up to them with a hit team of fedora’d thugs. Really great sequence which tells me this would have made a great short film but was stretched to the breaking point here.

A lot of nods to other DeNiro/Pfeiffer mob movies which were cute. And a really great turn from Dianna Agron (one of the cheerleaders from Glee) of all people… yeah, she’s gorgeous but she makes a very credible kick-ass action star at the end. Surprising.
