Comedy is subjective… and maybe Identity Thief is a great comedy and I’m just a glum, cynical sourpuss. Maybe I just used the word sourpuss. But, yeah, all the funny bits and pieces in this movie were in the trailer with an occasional chuckle through the rest. Mainly it tried real hard and added some pointless action and characters to ramp up the screwball (a bounty hunter, a couple gangsters) with some cynical attempts at sentimentality. I like Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman and wanted to like this movie a lot more than I did. Best moment was the trailer for the Melissa McCarthy/Sandra Bullock cop buddy comedy The Heat which used the M.I.A. song Bad Girls ironically… and then Identity Thief starts and the intro credits use the same song… also ironically.
