Into the Forest

Rented a new release (also in limited theatrical run) film called Into the Forest, starring Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood as two sisters surviving in an America where the power seems to have gone out forever. It’s not sci-fi or horror beyond the idea of living out in the woods, not knowing if the power will ever come back and the vague fear of not knowing why it went out.

This is a good actor’s movie – the two leads are very good and the director/writer didn’t have any interest in being a typical post-apocalyptic story. Which a cynical person might point out means there’s no actual need to have the hook of power going out… this could just as well been about two people who bailed on the modern world to live in the forest. Or something set in the 19th century.

But, either way, good film. Thoughtful film. Maybe a little horrific at times, maybe a little slow at times…
