Life of Pi

Saw Life of Pi – the boy on a boat with a tiger movie. It’s a beautiful movie with great acting and a pretty impressive CG tiger… that doesn’t ultimately work for me. I wish the movie had sucked me in more during its adventure/survival sequences but I suspect this made a better book than movie (I suspect, without rancor, that others may legitimately get into it a lot more). One positive thing, Hollywood didn’t recast the boy – he remains an Indian kid. Unfortunately, the movie stabs itself with its overall treatment of spirituality… it winds up confused or possibly reprehensible perspective on religion and beliefs (that it doesn’t seem to think is confused or reprehensible – I think it thinks its deep and meaningful).
