No Escape (2015)

Checked out No Escape, the new Owen Wilson/Lake Bell action suspense flick about a married couple and their two young daughters who move to a undisclosed SE Asian country just in time for a military coup. The flick details their attempt as a couple middle class white Americans as they attempt to escape the crazy batches of rebels who are pretty intent on killing middle class white Americans. Yes, it’s kind of a “be wary of where you travel outside of the United States” movies but it’s really just a reasonably suspenseful cat and mouse chase and escape movie.

Piers Brosnan shows up as a guy who isn’t at all a British spy (nope, nossiree, just an average Brit out to have a good time in this undisclosed SE Asian country, move along move along). He’s the only source of this movie being anything more than just an American in peril paranoia film by giving us some jangling bits of excuse that doesn’t really work. But he’s pretty good in the movie – better than most everyone and everything else.

It’s not a terrible movie – it’s probably worth watching some weekend when its on Netflix or something.

p.s. The title No Escape is either a lie or a spoiler… maybe that’s the only mystery in the film.
