Raiders!

Rented the new documentary Raiders! which is the story of three kids who, in 1984, decided to film a shot for shot re-enactment of Raiders of the Lost Ark (including crazy car stunts, lighting each other on fire, making nazi uniforms out of surplus boy scout uniforms, using a dog instead of heil hitler-ing monkey). Over the course of five years, they put their movie together and then walked away having not finished the final scene, the fight between Indy and the big Nazi around the flying wing aircraft. This documentary is about the creation of that original production but also about the kids, now adults with their own families, trying to scrape together the crowd-funding to go back and finish their little film.

It’s a cool story and the limited amount of their fan film they show in the documentary is enough to make me wish I was watching that movie instead of this one. As a documentary, this is only vaguely interesting… but since they don’t have the rights to Raiders of the Lost Ark, they can only air tiny bits of it

So this is a swing and mostly a miss as a documentary goes. Kind of worth watching as a fan of the Indiana Jones movies but ultimately it doesn’t really give the watcher enough. I’m sure the families of these guys will love it… the rest of us with no connection to them… probably not.
