Vampire Academy

The new movie Vampire Academy is a desperately hip attempt at cross-breeding Harry Potter and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight (though it pretends it’s better than Twilight by attacking it directly). The dialog is trying hard to be clever, witty, and sarcastic in that way Joss Whedon can do on Buffy but the writer of this movie can’t pull off… or maybe it’s the directing or the acting that makes the dialog fail. It was kind of groan-worthy… what was VERY groan-worthy was the teenage girl moon-eyes over a lot of generic handsome guys who were largely indistinguishable from each other. The movie has one or two interesting moments and may be suffering from being a poor translation from a series of books (which I haven’t read). Largely this was an uninspired retread that offers nothing new and can be safely skipped (which you were going to do anyway).
