Wild Life, The (2016)

I also rented the kid’s cartoon version of Robinson Crusoe called The Wild Life. This came out earlier this year and managed maybe a week or two at the theaters. It deserved a fast death. This is a terrible and unfunny supposed retelling of Crusoe only replacing the semi (or totally) racist black character of Friday with a bird name Tuesday… and adding an old goat, a pangolin, another bird, and a tapir, I think. And, for villains, a bunch of feral cats and hijinx ensue.

Whatever, this is a garbage movie with inexplicable jokes -first joke, one rat says to another, ” you are one kidney short of a meat pie”… what does that even mean and what does it have to do with anything? Why was it a joke? Do I not understand something about meat pies that has something to do with being smart or stupid?

The whole movie is like this – me just wondering why things are happening the way they are, trying to interpret strange jokes, or noting contradictions or things the characters can’t know by the movie’s own fiction. It’s a terrible written movie and I’m putting more thought into it than the cynical people who made it.

It does look good though. Some legitimately impressive CGI work. And a lot of obvious “in the camera” 3D shots that are distracting since, you know, I’m not watching it in 3D.
