World’s End, The

Saw The World’s End, the new sci-fi pub crawl movie that’s a spiritual successor to Shawn of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. With great affection, I have to say I didn’t really love this movie. It’s got a lot going for it – it’s occasionally very funny, the action scenes are surprisingly solid, and Simon Pegg is great as both an insufferable man-child and his internal demons… but its kind of unfocused, it goes on too long, and really feels like it needed its shaggy hair trimmed. A leaner, meaner version of the story would have been able to hold up its sagging story. It’s not a disaster, but it is a disappointment. An affectionate disappointment.
