The Dig is about a wealthy woman who hires an excavator to dig up the ancient burial mounds on her property in the days leading up to World War 2. And… yeah, I’m sure this is a smart, thoughtful, dreadfully romantic movie in its stiff, arms-length kind of way. But I just couldn’t get into it… it was cold and distant, never letting me in as it seriously and studiously rolled through its plot of digging up ancient relics during WW2 while stuffy British people worry about this and that. It just bounced off me as something I couldn’t get into… I could only dig an inch into the dirt when it required a complete excavation, I guess you could say.
