Resort to Love is kind of a generic, breezy-headed, low-effort vacation-based romantic comedy. It doesn’t try very hard, it’s filmed in a generic, flat way, and it has little to recommend it. But it isn’t the worst of its kind and has some charms.
Christina Milian plays a singer whose career is going down the tubes (and she recently had her wedding called off) so she takes a job as a singer at a tropical resort far from NYC. She immediately runs into her ex who is there to get married (with her as the wedding singer).
For awhile in the beginning, I was mildly amused by this flick… it wasn’t winning any awards but it wasn’t terrible. But it gets a little long and the characters act in ways that are kind of awful. And there’s a bog-standard, generic secret that has to get revealed in a generic, bog-standard way that too many Hollywood rom coms have done a hundred times before. I guess it gets resolved pretty quickly so it doesn’t drag out and with more maturity than I expected.
Make no mistake… if this isn’t your kind of movie, you can skip it without losing a beat. I probably should have. If you like rom coms, there’s enough here to justify watching. Hey, it’s not costing you extra if you already have Netflix.
