See for Me is a pretty effective little home invasion suspense thriller with a premise that’s similar to a number of other movies but with its own unique spin.

The movie follows a recently blind woman who takes a job cat sitting in an expensive home for low wages. When a trio of burglars break in, she has to use an assistive tech app to help her see. There’s a person on the other end of the phone helping her navigate the dark house as she struggles to hide and survive.

Here we have a visually impaired woman who has to use her environment to take down baddies… so a bit of a home invasion movie like Hush and Audrey Hepburn’s Wait Until Dark… and a little John McClain in Die Hard.

I found the majority of the movie pretty interesting, especially since the lead isn’t a fairy tale princess. She’s abrasive and maybe can see a way to profit out of this situation herself. It’s a daring choice since we usually need to side 100% with the goodness of our protagonist in a flick like this.

The relationship between her and the sight assistant on the other end of her phone was nice. They don’t always get along and that makes the relationship more interesting. Unfortunately, despite it being the basis of the title, the See for Me app scenario isn’t as big a part of the movie as I’d have liked. No problem with the protagonist taking care of herself but they set up the situation and made me like the character on the other end of the phone.

Unfortunately, the movie does have a natural conclusion that the runtime speeds past to give us an unnecessary final showdown. It got a little draggy at that point.

But otherwise, this is a solid and effect little suspense thriller that kept me interested and rooting for an imperfect hero.
