The Wolf of Snow Hollow is a peppy and enjoyable little gory werewolf black comedy. I was often baffled at what tone they were going for… that is, until Jim Cummings starts to unravel and turn into a shouting anxiety-prone drunk.
The film is about a small snow-bound town where it always seems to be the full moon. A killer – certainly not a werewolf – is lurking about and making a mess out of townsfolk and everyone is leaning on Cummings to solve this case. And he’s leaning on himself and shouting into his phone and panicking over his teen daughter.
It’s a fun performance and I swear the movie was trying to make it obvious what was going on. And then it wasn’t… so kudos to them for tricking me.
Also mellow kudos to how cool the werewolf looked in the few shots we get of it. And for the overall snowy look of the film. And the bouncy yet nervous soundtrack that was working hard to tell us this was a dark comedy.
I enjoyed this one. It’s not an amazing werewolf movie but it’s one of the better ones, given how few there are. It sets up a good mystery, lays down some fun red herrings, and ends overall pretty well.
