You know, it’s a weird world when a terrible spoof movie like Not Another Church Movie name drops and even worse terrible spoof movie like Meet the Blacks… and I realize, you know, Church Movie is bad… but not as bad as the alternative!

Not Another Church Movie is a parody mostly of Tyler Perry movies… and his Madea movies and a lot of other flicks as well. And once we get over the fact he’s spoofing something that’s already borderline spoof (Madea), actually making fun of Tyler Perry was somewhat amusing. Keyword: somewhat. It never hits as hard or as witty as it thinks it does… and there’s plenty of room for better comedy writers to dig in.

It also makes fun of some dated stuff which is usually worth rolling your eyes over. But this one had a clever reference to Boyz ‘n The Hood which I recognized immediately and smiled… right before they name dropped that 90s flick for me. Maybe it would have been funnier without beating the joke to death, but I was still amused.

So, yeah, this is a very bad movie but it occasionally made me smile. Very occasionally. But that’s more smiling than either Meet the Blacks movies (both of which I voluntarily saw… unlike this one where I got roped into it by a friend looking for a terrible movie to watch).
