The Calendar Killer is a German Prime Video thriller that is so needlessly overstuffed with plot and characters for a flick where I couldn’t care less about the plot or characters. With a better written script, all the plot and plots and plot twists would have amounted to something.
The flick is about guy working a night protection hotline who gets butt dialed (?) by a scared woman. He needles his way into her life only to find out she’s been threatened by a serial killer named The Calendar Killer… AND her domineering husband has dragged her unwillingly to an S&M party. And maybe she’s suicidal and maybe she takes pills to stop her hallucinations. Oh, and the phone guy’s wife and child recently died too.
If this maybe was a single location thriller with a guy talking to an unseen scared woman, maybe it’d have worked. But they constantly track back to the caller and give her flashbacks and then give him flashbacks and its just one messy, overburdened plot point after another. Not to mention a fair number of plot holes too.
If this script was tightened or the dialog and characters were better, they’d have been onto something. It has a thick atmosphere that looks good on screen but that’s not enough.
So, yeah, I found this terminally overstuffed and uninteresting. It needed a trim on the script level… either cut some of the subplots or tighten the characters and dialog. Something.
