Dhoom Dhaam

Dhoom Dhaam is an Indian Netflix action comedy romance… and it doesn’t do any of these genres particularly well. In fact, it starts with such cartoony comedy that bounced off my cynical armor that it took the film an entire film to even warm up to my final rating.

It’s about a newly married Indian couple who didn’t have time to get to know each other before the wedding. On the wedding night, two goons show up at their hotel room and demand to know where Charlie is. Neither know who they are talking about. A night of hijinks ensue.

He’s a reserved vegan animal doctor and she’s a wild card, willing to do anything. Neither knew these facts about each other before they got hitched so half the film is a wacky rom-com. The other half an action comedy full of goofy goons, gunfire, escapes, fights, misunderstandings, and so forth.

Most of the action and mystery don’t work so well. The comedy is a little too corny for me most of the time. But the lead actors are doing their best and they have a certain chemistry with each other. They don’t personally save the film but they at least stop the downward spiral the film opens with.

And, hey, it’s on Netflix and its only a buck forty in the runtime and not 3+ hours. It has a fun soundtrack and two good actors in the middle of mediocre wacky comedy action comedy. Not a recommendation but I’ve easily seen worse.
