Best part of Sid Meier’s Memoir! is, of course, the title. Sid Meier’s Memoir! is exactly what Sid Meier’s biography should be called. Because anyone interested in the life of the man will instantly recognize its meaning.
And his is a good memoir… it focuses heavily on his career as a game designer and uses the opportunity with each age to cover the inspiration and ideas behind the games. He writes minimally about the business side because he’s not the business guy. But we get just enough details to follow that part of his history in gaming. Nor does he focus heavily on his early life except when it influenced a game… and he makes specific reference to his positivity and disinterest into these unrelated details in the final pages of the book.
He’s also a very charitable writer, giving credit where due to his collaborators and contemporaries. He will sometimes suggest problems or bad ideas but never points the finger at anyone except himself. I enjoyed his writing style (or that of his collaborator).
A very good, very interesting, and good natured read.
