The new samurai flick starring Keanu Reeves – 47 Ronin – is a good looking but empty action flick with remarkably little action. I’m also unsure how many ronin there actually were as some of them died before someone declares “we are 47″… so presumably there were at least 48… and I’m not 100% sure if Keanu Reeves is one of them (since he’s not a samurai and therefor cannot be ronin). Nor, curiously, is Keanu actually relevant to the story told… you could cut him out and have the same movie. After a fizzle of action climax (really? that’s it?), the movie has the courage to not betray its ending for a more traditional (American) Hollywood Ending (I guess its the ending of the original myth/story of the 47 Ronin… a story I’m unfamiliar with). This random blabbering is more interesting than the movie itself.
