Checked out the new remake of Alice in Wonderland – I wasn’t sure if I was going to go see it but the reviews have been decent enough so I gave it a shot.

The movie was pretty good. I can’t say it was great or even very good but I enjoyed it and I wasn’t bored. It looks amazing.

The weakest link was Johnny Depp. Nothing against Depp in general or the Mad Hatter as a character but since Depp was the Mad Hatter, they had to punch up his stuff to the point of distraction. It wasn’t his story, so he should stay on the fringes with the Cheshire Cat (very cool), the dormouse, and the others.

Helena Bonham Carter was fun. Christopher Lee was the voice of the Jabberwok… for two lines. It was weird. Big battle at the end, Alice takes up the Vorpal Sword which goes sniker snack… Not sure Alice needed a LOTR-style fight scene… but I guess you can’t stop “progress”.

Worth seeing, for the most part.
