Haven’t we seen this exact movie before… like a dozen times in the past five years? Mom and dad, husband and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend are secret spies for the FBI, surprising their significant other or children or whoever needs to learn a lesson that the other isn’t a boring square. And here we are again.
This time, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx are retired spies with a teen and a tween who are over their square parents. Only surprise.. etc. etc. etc.
Hey, Cameron Diaz is back. That’s nice. Maybe she should have held out for a good script? But maybe she wanted to work with Jamie Foxx again… who should have held out for a good script too.
But a bad script doesn’t mean a bad action movie? Except, yeah, the action is also super formulaic and tired. It’s slickly produced but almost totally meaningless noise. I didn’t care and no one else should either.
I’m giving it a half nudge for the cast, including the kid actors who don’t do a bad job. And some surprise actors who I didn’t see coming. But the film is just so blah that even the actors can’t really save it.
