Checked out Bad Moms today (which sounds like I’m a lecherous creep but really just means I want to the see the movie Bad Moms). This is the flick about a mom, played by Mila Kunis, who is running ragged trying to keep up with her kids, her job, and her lazy husband. She reaches her breaking point at an emergency PTA meeting about the bake sale. She, along with Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Bell, decide to rebel. To become Bad Moms.
To get it out of the way, they are Bad Moms largely in a way that means they no longer want to be Perfect Moms. They aren’t negligent moms, though maybe they go out drinking a bit too often and some other behavior may not be ideal (probably those kids should buckle up while she’s taking them to school in her husband’s muscle car). At the same time that they cuss about their kids, they can’t help but express how much they loves those little shitheads.
This is a very funny movie that holds together as well as it needs to (the picky part of me sees some sloppy story editing but I’ll give the movie a pass since it’s very minor). I suspect, based on the reaction to the trailers and from the ladies behind me in the theater, that women (and moms) will get a lot more enjoyment out of it. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a hoot for dudes too. I laughed out loud a bunch at some legit not-mom-based jokes (and at the mom-based jokes too). Some of the movie is very raunchy (as in, using Kristen Bell and her sweater as an example of how to have sex with an uncircumcised penis). So, you know, warning for lewd humor. Funny lewd humor though 🙂
So, yes, I recommend this quite a bit – to everyone but probably to moms who aren’t so uptight they are the people this movie is shouting at. Good cast all around with Kathryn Hahn being the somewhat cartoonish breakout (she was a bad mom to begin with). I say check it out if you are looking for a fun comedy that’s both sweet and raunchy at once.
Also, a very unique end-credits scene that I enjoyed. Each of the female cast members on the couch with their real-life moms talking about each other. It was very sweet and very funny.
