Blasted has an amusing idea for a sci-fi action comedy but none of the execution works.
The flick is about a bunch of friends who head to an excluded valley for some paint ball and laser tag fun when they run into a body-snatching alien invasion. Only the laser tag guns can stop the aliens.
I laughed maybe once at this rather tedious and largely unfunny miss of a flick. I’m not sure what went wrong – maybe something got lost in translation (it’s Norwegian) or maybe it’s just a flick Netflix gobbled up on the cheap to put on their service.
The aliens are body snatchers and the location shooting is “the woods” so this flick was saving its budget hard. There is a decently designed big slimy alien near the end that shows some creativity and a bit of a budget but it’s not enough to save the sci-fi of this sci-fi action flick.
I wanted the movie to end and kept wishing they premise could have been done better. Shooting aliens with toy guns is a fun idea that they could have made work with a different script.
