Yeah, my initial instincts were right: I shouldn’t have bothered. I’ve seen Bob’s Burgers a handful of times and could identify the main characters if ordered to by an irate Gestapo agent. But I didn’t think there was any need to see the film and I’d probably spend the entire movie not getting the inside jokes.
That’s probably what happened.
I did chuckle a few times in the flick and I appreciated the various random asides and jokes scattered througout. But I ultimately thought it was 30 minutes too long with a wildly over-indulgent and extended dramatic crime plot. A plot that was probably writ large to justify a movie where they usually solve their problems in 22 minutes.
I was relatively into the story for the first half hour… and then the mystery plot kicked in and I looked at my watch, realizing there was still well over an hours of this to go.
I got wildly bored and really wished I would just leave. But, yeah, knowing the danger and trouble these characters were in probably would have mattered (maybe) if I followed them closely on tv. But, on the other hand, we know they’ll be ok since, you know, ongoing tv show so I have a hard time believing this was engaging even for fans.
But what do I know?
I just knew I was bored and this wasn’t the movie for me.
