Detroit has a crime problem and there appears to be one solution: tear down the crime-ridden core and build a new city in its place… and you can do this by using one of them there robocops or wall off the worst tenements and send in a nuclear device and build your new city over the (apparently not irradiated?) rubble. This is pretty much the plot of the new Paul Walker action flick Brick Mansions (the walled-off city with nuke plot, not the robocop). Brick Mansions is a nonsensical remake of a decent French action flick named District B13… crime has gotten so bad in a a few city blocks that it’s easier to wall it off and only allow access by military patrolled checkpoints. It costars the star of the original flick – a parkour/free running French dude (same guy, ten years later, still amazingly fit). I wish the director could have filmed some of his action in single shots since parkour is neat when not cut into a bunch of two second clips… It’s a fairly mediocre and forgettable flick with functional dialog and major plot holes (as if you this movie really needed a plot, though).
