Captain Nova is a Netflix film from the Netherlands about a near future where things have gone horribly wrong and a woman has to take her spaceship/time machine back to the past to save it. She crashes and is rescued by a twelve year old boy and, due to the mechanics of time travel and the contrivances of the plot, she ages down to her twelve year old self. Can these two kids avoid capture and save the world?
This flick is rather bland, flat, uninteresting, and kind of generic. It spends so much time being dour and gloomy it forgets to be fun… it forgets its about two children trying to save the world. It’s also remarkably low-fi… a budget sci-fi adventure that just looks boring. The acting is remarkably flat too.
The plot, by coincidence surely, reminds me of the better Netflix sci-fi time travel film The Adam Project. That flick is far less serious, has a bigger budget, and is pretty dumb. But at least it remembers to entertain. Captain Nova is basically a kid’s sci-fi adventure; it shouldn’t be this robotic.
Not much to see here. This one can be avoided. There are simply better time travel and/or kid adventure flicks to watch.
