And I saw the Tom-Hanks-Is-Harassed-by-Pirates-In-A-Movie-With-a-Bad-Title Captain Phillips. This is about the tanker that got hijacked by Somali pirates in 2009. And it’s good. I’m not sure it was as good as all the reviews are saying or even that Tom Hanks’ performance (and I love Tom Hanks) was all that awesome (until the last 5 minutes) but I will say its an extremely well produced movie, always looking fantastic, and is fairly tense… though honestly I’d have liked it more if I didn’t know how it ended. While the suspense was there, knowing how the situation was resolved sucked some of the life out of the movie. If you can’t remember the story, you might enjoy it quite a bit more.

That said, the same director made United 93 and, yeah, the passengers brought the 4th plane down on 9/11 and that movie worked better than this one.

But I may be sounding too critical – this is a good, very solid, suspenseful movie… and you should see it if the topic interests you.
