I (surprisingly) rather enjoyed this cozy little romantic comedy / Christmas flick. I’m not sure I could, in good conscience, recommend it to anyone with a cynical bone anywhere at all in their body though. Which is me so… go figure.
The flick is about a popular author (Brooke Shields!?!) who writes an unpopular book and flees to Scotland to get out of the public eye. She encounters a British noble (Duke Cary Elwes) who owns a castle that she decides to buy (because she had relatives who once works there before moving to America). Can these crazy (older) kids find love again, etc?
I think the producers just had access to a castle or a believable castle interior set and then formulated a script around it. Well, fair enough. The movie is charming and effectively Christmas-y. I was genuinely surprised – if not a little perplexed – that I enjoyed this seemingly generic Netflix flick… but I did.
And no apologies… just random defensiveness in my writing. Watch it or not. The more you like rom-coms and low-effort Lifetime-adjacent Christmas flicks, the more you’ll likely like it. I’m not in that cohort of viewers and yet… there ya go. It was cozy.
