Catwoman: Hunted is the latest DC animated superhero flicks that takes a slight left by having an anime (or anime-inspired) style. That doesn’t mean it’s not fairly cheap animation, but at least its got its own style (though I think there were a few other Batman flicks with the anime aesthetic, but I haven’t seen ’em).
The flick gives us Catwoman teaming up with Batwoman to something something jewel theft something something The League of Shadows. Yeah, there’s a little heisting and cat burgling but the bulk of the flick is made of hand-to-hand fights with various enemies in the forms of demons, mechs, vampires, Solomon Grundies, and various evil cat-people. It goes on long enough to think, yeah, maybe this “plot” exists to let the Cat – and Bat – Women duke it out with a host of random grab-bag of baddies.
And, yeah, that’s all right. This is a pretty fun movie with some witty banter. It didn’t knock me out with its brilliance but the voice acting was pretty solid from a cast of just-having-fun ladies. Plus we get some racier content, what with Catwoman purring up to Batwoman. Meow.
Overall, it’s a decent to fun watch. I’ve enjoyed other, more somber DC properties a bit more, but there’s something to be said for just being a witty little caper. I enjoyed this one, mostly.
