I’ll admit it: For some unexplored reason, I don’t like Aardman movies. There have been a couple that came in ok for me but most of their iconic titles – including the original Chicken Run but also Wallace and Gromit *gasp* – I just don’t like. So keep that in mind… if you like their quirky British sense of humor, ignore this review.
Dawn of the Nugget is a Netflix follow-up to Chicken Run with an alright premise. Instead of breaking out of another chicken farm, they have to break into a chicken factory and save their friends destined to become nuggets.
If you like Aardman, you’ll probably like this flick. I just don’t connect with their sense of humor and find their storytelling slow and boring. The stories are fine, but the way they’re told just bounces off of me.
It’s partly that I don’t like their character models with their big eyes and bigger teeth. It’s not the quality of the stop-motion animation… that remains good. I just don’t like the art style.
I also don’t find them funny or interesting. I don’t hate British humor, but I don’t connect with Aardman’s variety of it, I guess.
So this is a skip from me. Your results may vary.
