So I watched with detached disinterest the animated flick Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs on DVD only to realize suddenly while watching that the movie was kind of funny and absurdist. And then I realized I kind of liked it. Well, saw the sequel (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2) today and it has a few of the odd duck funny and absurdist moments early on as well, descends into food puns, and ultimately spins its comedic gears over the same set of jokes. Leaving a whatever story that will appeal to kids but not too many other people, I suspect. It’s not awful, but I was largely bored while it went through the motions.
