Striving for the position of “Anti-Fun Curmudgeon of the Year”, here’s my entry. I hate Looney Tunes, apparently… or I hated this modern endless diversion of madcap tomfoolery that didn’t make me laugh once. Because I had my fun-o-meter surgically removed as a child.
This (happily) hand-drawn Looney Tunes 90 (!) minute movie stars Daffy and Porky as roommates who are about to lose their house. They try to find real jobs and wind up at Petunia Pig’s work which is getting ready to roll out a new bubblegum flavor. But little do they know, an alien has devious plans for the gum… and Earth.
Yeah, I didn’t laugh once. And given my limited amusement with Hundreds of Beavers, I might just have had my sense of humor for this type of comedy removed during one of my alien abductions. So maybe just ignore me if you think Hundreds of Beavers or Lake Michigan Monster or any Looney Tunes short is hilarious. I’d like to think I still like classic Bugs and gang but now I’m not so sure.
I hated, hated, hated this movie in its first half. I just didn’t care, didn’t laugh, and any attempt at character or growth was missing the mark. Not to mention the film is waaay too long for its content. I pondered walking out and lying to you all about watching the full thing. <gasp>
But, and this is a big contradictory but, I actually started to engage with the film once it hit the third act. Not sure why… it shifts its attention and plot and almost feels like a different film… one I kind of was more into.
That said, points deducted for the criminal act of not using Marvin the Martian as their UFO alien. What were they thinking?!!?
Anyhow, you are free to think I’m a moon-faced assassin of joy for disliking this flick. Probably true, at least when it comes to the remnants of Saturday Morning cartoons I grew up with.
