Dumb and Dumber To is the actual sequel to 1994’s Dumb and Dumber – Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are back a lot older and a lot later than they should have been (there was a prequel with a better title (Dumb and Dumberer) made 11 years ago that did not star these two jokers).

Before I say anything about the sequel, I’ll just point out I don’t have a love or much affinity for the original… and a lot of people love the original. I think I was a little too old and possibly a little too film snooty when it came out. I think Dumb and Dumber is a movie you have to see when you’re young and stupid for it to be That Movie. Just a theory.

Anyhow, Dumb and Dumber To picks up 20 years later for these two idiots in a plot that’s whatever it’s about. It hardly matters since it’s just a hanger for a lot of intentionally dumb jokes. And I actually laughed a surprising amount in the first 20 or 30 minutes but then the movie started to sink… and then it started to stink… the last half hour goes on waaaay too long for the minimal story it’s telling. It eventually just starts to drag. It’s listed as 110 minutes and I can believe it.

If you dug the original, you should probably see this one as its made for you and we should be nice to Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Because why not? If you still love really knowingly dumb humor (and fart jokes), then it may still work for you… at least part of the time.
