To all the 80s action movie fans out there, I rented a movie (via iTunes) called Electric Boogaloo… no, not Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo but a documentary about Cannon Pictures/Golun Globus which, among many other movies, made Breakin’ 2. Basically it’s a documentary about the company that, in the late 70s and 80s, made all the best worst (and often just worst worst) movies of the era… You know, things like Masters of the Universe, Death Wish 2-6 (but not 1), Missing in Action, Treasure of the Four Crowns (worst. movie. ever), The Last American Virgin, Invasion USA, Delta Force, Superman IV, Over the Top (Stallone arm wrestling!), and a bunch of others that ranged from low budget shlocky exploitation to (misfired) attempts at respectable films (and a few good ones like Runaway Train).
If you aren’t familiar with those movies or have no interest in the story of an ultimately failed production company, no reason to watch it. If you do like your Hollywood histories and either love or hate (but at least are aware of) that era of Hollywood history, this is a neat movie. They get a lot of actors, producers, directors, and writers to talk – a lot of them you haven’t seen since the 80s and a few you may have.
