Fahrenheit 11/9

Soooo… I went to see Michael Moore’s new totally objective documentary Fahrenheit 11/9. I avoided the Dinesh D’Souza political doc that likened Trump to Lincoln instead of Trump to Hitler like Moore does. But I don’t particularly like Trump (spoiler alert) and I find Moore reasonably funny. Not very honest, not at all objective, but amusing. I think I know his game well enough to notice his one-sided, slanted reporting so I think I’m safe.

But, hey, if you are a diehard Trump fan and hate Michael Moore (understandably) then there’s nothing to see here. Moore goes over all the usual talking points about Trump – though he does get in some interesting new angles (and digs). But the movie is a little unfocused and covers not just Trump. He goes after the Flint water crisis, school shootings, the Democratic party corruption over Bernie Sanders, Hillary, and even Obama (too many drone strikes, too many expelled immigrants, and his response to Flint’s water). To say he’s being even-handed would be untrue since his slams on the Democrats are because they aren’t lefty enough.

The lack of focus – though he does a decent, if sometimes dishonest, job of connecting the dots – and the general subjective (expected) approach to the topic are problems. But, to people already on his side – and the more on his side the better – you’ll enjoy the flick. If you are a Trump fan, you’ll just be annoyed. If you are neither and are just a little uninformed, this is not the doc to give you the god’s honest truth.
