Fortress

In the recent pantheon of modern Bruce Willis movies, I’d say he’s in this one a bit more than most. That’s something. He cares just about as much as usual though… which is to say, not at all. As you might expect. Curiously, he’s paired again with Chad Michael Murray which is concerning for Mr. Murray’s career. What would Nathan say?

So Fortress stars Willis as a retired CIA agent living out his golden years in a secret government-run retirement community. When mercenaries led by the nefarious Chad Michael Murray infiltrate, it becomes… well… it becomes as generic an action flick as you can get. And maybe a deadly game of cat and mouse. <shrug>

This is not the worst of Willis’ current lot in life. It’s shot well enough and Chad Michael Murray chews the scenery as Willi’s arch-nemesis. Imagine that… Bruce has gone from Hans Gruber to Chad. But, to Chad’s credit, if he’s chewing the scenery, at least he’s trying. He’s not entirely convincing as a dapper bad guy, but at least he has some good sneering, mustache-twirling villain dialog to gnaw on.

I guess that’s the best and the worst I can say about the flick. It’s not the worst B movie ever pumped out, Willis appears in it more than usual, Chad Michael Murray is the bad guy and isn’t the worst thing in the world. It’s mediocre, but it’s also inoffensive.
