I rolled the bones on another blind watch and I may as well not have since I won’t remember this is a week. The Friendship Game is a muddled mess of teen melodrama vaguely connected to an evil(?) spinning orb toy. I dunno… I kind of liked the look of the prop and thought maybe – just maybe – they might build something interesting around it.
The flick is about a group of high school friends who decide to play The Friendship Game. Touch the sphere, tell it your innermost desires, and… umm… it tests your friendship? Of course, everyone gets their innermost desire (I guess), one of them goes missing, and the remaining people wander from scene to scene where weird things happen that don’t actually happen because it’s all a dream. Or something.
This movie is an editing hellscape… not poorly edited, but just randomly edited. Telling a story out of order that isn’t very interesting on a good day. Odds of anything being scary are low, odds of anything you’re seeing actually happening are lower. It’s really just an over-edited teen melodrama that includes a mysterious and underwritten sphere o’ doom. Or evil. Or, I dunno, a whatchamacallit. It hardly matters.
Avoid this blob of a film that goes nowhere, means nothing, has no point, has no scares, and has no interesting characters. Moving on.
