Went blind into a movie called The Funhouse Massacre… all I knew about it was the title which cleverly suggested there would be a funhouse in which a massacre would take place. I’m clever in deducing these things.
But, yeah, never saw a trailer nor commercial which is rare for me. And it’s also weird it missed Halloween but I guess it was released on Friday the 13th (and, yeah, the day Paris got hit with real horror…)
What I saw was exactly what the title suggested. It seems a group of maniacs escape an asylum for the criminally insane (warden played by Robert Englund) and they take over a funhouse (actually a haunted house/carnival) and proceed to murder the guests in front of other guests because, hey, it’s all fake right?
The movie is aware of itself and horror tropes and is basically a very bloody horror comedy. Not a very good horror movie and only a marginal comedy (I smiled a couple of times) but I kind of sort of appreciated its tone and self-awareness.
This is not a recommendation unless the idea of a cheesy gory comedy set in a haunted house appeals… and even then, only just barely.
