G20

An action fantasy where the US president gives a shit about foreign nations and who the press can shame? You don’t say! Guess this one was made in the Before Times when a better America was imagined. On the other hand, a crashing economy due to uncertainty inserted into the market? You don’t say!

Amazon’s G20 stars Viola Davis’ arms as the president of the US visiting South Africa for the G20 summit. Anthony Starr is a nogoodnik who takes the hotel and all the world leaders hostages… except for Action President and a few others. But Davis served in the armed forces and she can handle a gun in a gown no problem.

This action flick is super generic and not interesting enough to really work. It’s watcha watcha action hero music is as generic as the action stunts themselves. At just a little over 100 minutes with a dozen more for credits, the film goes on for way too long, struggling to find Die Hard (or Air Force One) things for Davis to do.

Most of the script is super generic but they do have a little bit of comic book fun with Viola and Anthony Starr being in the cast. Davis plays in DC while Starr is Homelander in The Boys. It’s a handful of cute meta jokes and probably the only creative thing in the whole flick.

Everything else? You’ve seen before and better. It’s hardly the worst action streaming original but it also struggles to justify its existence. It’s just good enough to maybe be passable if bored.
