Rented the flick Goosebumps 2 after missing it at the theaters over Halloween. This is the Non-Jack-Black sequel to the Jack Black led Goosebumps from a few years ago. It wasn’t a bad (nor an overly good) little family comedy “horror” movie that traded on a lot of nostalgia I don’t have. This movie is basically the same.
Which means, yeah, it’s fine. It’s fairly harmless. It doesn’t go out of its way to excel or fail. I also think it has the exact same plot and exact same stable of monsters. A couple of kids investigate an old house and find an unfinished Goosebumps manuscript which summons the evil ventriloquist dummy. The dummy has different motivations (he wants a family?) so he uses his magic – and the power of a Tesla tower for some unnecessary complications – to turn all the Halloween monsters to life. So we get the killer gummy bears, abominable snowmen, pumpkin monsters, etc.
So, yeah, it’s fine. You’re fine. We’re all fine here. See if if you have a massive Goosebumps nostalgia thing in your life (or you have kids who might be thrilled by it). It’s harmless and occasionally fun bit of family comedy “horror”.
