Hostile Dimensions is a tiny tiny little found footage sci-fi/horror (comedy?) about a couple of documentarians researching a missing woman. According to her own found footage, she stepped through a mysterious door into an alternate dimension. The film makers find the door and begin to explore these realities in their attempt to find her.
This isn’t a great film but it is spunky, interesting, and imaginative. I wish it were consistently as strong as its ambitions but suffers some slow moments for a 77 minute film. But it tries hard and is intriguing enough to still give it credit.
Its budget limitations prevent it from going full bore on its “hostile dimensions” but some of the realities they step into show real sci-fi and horror promise. There are some wobbly and limited special effects that hint at greater ideas just around the corner of each reality. Some of them very interesting and even beautiful within the film’s limited budget.
Amusingly this found footage flick breaks some of the rules of the genre by including chapter titles and maybe a couple cheating camera angles. Not enough to be a problem though… most found footage tip their hats to the gimmick.
If the idea of a multiverse-on-a-budget found footage film perks your interest, give it a shot. It’s both pretty good and imaginative and it’s kind of fun to see what they get away with on a small budget.
