Aggressively forgettable and mediocre action suspense film starring Liam Neeson? You don’t say! Yeah, it’s another late stage Liam Neeson action flick which kinda basically gets the job done without really trying too hard. Some of these flicks are better than others… this one is pretty middle-of-the-(ice)-road. Just bland enough.
Liam Neeson plays a truck driver who has to move a seriously heavy load across Canada’s ice roads after a mine explosion traps a bunch of miners underground. He’s on the clock since air is running low and he has to battle the April melting ice, snow, avalanches, and the machinations of mustache-twirling corporate goons.
I struggle to think of anything good or particularly egregiously awful about this movie. I guess I could point out its limited use of CGI was Asylum levels of bad but they didn’t rely on it too much. That it’s action scenes and set pieces are sometimes alright and moderately suspenseful. That it’s villains and heroes are underwritten and spout all the clichés out of Screenwriting 101.
The movie is ultimately just a shrug. I can’t say it’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen but it also falls below average as far as “eh. good enough” action flicks go.
